AiTou - Referral Program

An innovative web-based platform for job-seekers is in need of a referral.

AiTou Technology is an emerging job-searching platform customized for international job-seekers.
Simply providing job-searching services is hard for monetization. Being at the stage of fund-raising, also to gain more users, the platform is now going through a transformation - build a job referral platform for job-seekers & referrers.

My Role: UX Designer/Researcher

Why Job Referral?

We've identified a significant market need for job referral services, and we believe that offering this feature will attract more traffic and users to our platform.

Compared to job searching, there are more opportunities for monetization in the job referral process.

Understand Users Need

The referral program is one of the most reliable job-seeking methods in the industry nowadays; it enables applicants’ resumes to be reviewed by HR directly and boosts the interview opportunity. 

We categorized the target users into referrer and job-seeker. We want to provide a smooth experience to our target users, so we need to understand the referral process first.

We interviewed 17 people who have experienced the process to understand their needs and concern.

Job-seeker View

Smart Filter

The job-seeker will use this page to find the referrals from their dream company. The customizable filter will help job-seekers identify their ideal company quickly and easily.

Referral Post Card

The card will provide the critical information that job-seekers may be interested in, such as job title, job location.

The last response date will give job-seekers a hint about how active the referrers are on the platform.

Requests from Referrer

Job-seekers can check referrals’ information, and see all the requested documents from the referrer on this page.

We understand that Job-seekers may need time to prepare the document, they could also save this position for future use.

Referral Request Form

The job-seekers need to fill in all the required and upload information on the form. We added the save & exit button to allow users to finish it later.

Once they submit the form, they will receive a confirmation. They can track their status on the profile page; they could also explore more referrals and turn back to the list.

Track & Withdraw a Request

Job-seekers can track the referral status on their profile page, we used different colors to present various statuses: pending (yellow), referred (AiTou blue), declined (gray).

They can also withdraw the request while the status is pending. The job-seeker could only apply one referral for one company; once they withdraw the request, they can submit the request to a different referrer for the same company.

Onboarding Process

The referrer has to become an AiTou user before registering as a referrer. They need to use their company email and complete the verification process before creating the profile.

The company email verification process is to ensure the credibility of the referrers. We understand that some users may be concerned about the privacy issue, the email will only be used for verification, and the job-seekers can’t see the email elsewhere.

Post a Referral

Once the referrer is registered, they can post a referral on their profile page.

They can customize their request and needed files in the posting form. The tag system will minimize their workload by simply clicking.

Check Referral Request

The inbox system is supposed to help referrers to manage candidates more effectively. They can choose to refer or decline candidates based on their information.

The blue tag will show candidates’ experience levels to help referrers filter quickly.

As part of a company's rebranding effort, I led my team in creating a new design system to ensure site-wide consistency.

Here is the screenshot of the main components we used for the referral program. My team is still working on updating the design system.

Retrospective

This is my first time touching the job-seeking industry. I spent much time learning the domain knowledge, but I enjoyed the time I spent on it, and I always held a passion for designing things that could help job-seekers since I’m a part of them. I realized that effective team communication is the key to a successful product. Working cross-functionally with the engineers helps me understand how design translates to code and reduces conflicts during development.
